Silencing my Mobius “Action Cam” – test flight – Aug 10th, 2013

SUCCESS! I finally rid this camera of that horrible whistling. Covering all openings with packaging tape was enough. Next, I may try some foam to dull some of the wind noise. I’ve begun some night flights with the Mobius and with the “new” wide-angle lens option. “Techmoan” for Mat’s review of this camera here…Check out Chuck Lohr’s web-site for all the “808″ camera information a person could want here…“Listen” to the out-of-the-box setup here…Note: The plastic case of this camera is coated with a Teflon(R) like material, of which nothing seems to adhere to. You’ll need to scrape this coating off all surfaces that you intend to attach anything to. (This includes the mounting bracket as well as the camera itself.) Not pretty, but it works. Also note the lack of “fisheye” lens distortion here. That’s NOT how this camera captured the event. I used Adobe Premeire Pro CS6 and pulled the curvature out post-process. I’ve been doing that to my latest videos from the Mobius and the GoPro Hero 3 Black Edition. I’m surprisingly impressed on how well the sharpness held up to the rework. The fisheye effect was geting old and it’s good to see that the images are good enough to support that edit. I enjoy seeing the straight horizons, roadways and powerlines as they move out of view! Welcome aboard one of my few aerial videos from my Ace, Cloud Dancer 60, ELECTRIC! This Fred Reese designed aircraft has about a 6 foot wingspan and is a graceful, Sunday flyer. My latest conversion to electric moved this up to better than a 1:1 thrust-to-weight ratio. It’s got power! It’ll roar and tear up a lot of real estate FAST, yet it glides seemilngly forever and is graceful at barely an idle. Topping that, I’ve added an Eagle Tree Systems Guardian 3-axis stabilization unit which turns this very stabile aircraft to rock steady! (No software stabilization used here, this is how the camera captured it.)This flight is a quick one just to check for the microphone noise that was so deafening in my previous attempts. Enjoy the ride! Glenn———————————————————————Because I’ve had a few requests now regarding the settings that I use on my Mobius, below are the contents of my configuration file as of the date, August 5th, 2013. Here I’m using “video mode 1″. (Your results may vary.)
